PRIMARY DIRECTIVE

Making things has always been more than a hobby — it's a way of thinking. There's something deeply satisfying about starting with a spool of filament and ending up with something that makes a kid's eyes light up.

Josiah's Maker Cave was born from a passion for the craft and a love of seeing 3D printed toys bring real joy. Articulating dragons, fidget gadgets, puzzles, mythical creatures — if it can be imagined, the printer can probably attempt it.

MARKET RESEARCH PROTOCOL

Deciding which prints to bring to a craft fair involves a rigorous evaluation process. Candidate items are presented to two field experts — my daughters — and selections are made based on the intensity of their excitement response.

Polite interest means it stays home. Grabbing it and running means it's in the bag. This methodology has proven highly effective and is not subject to peer review.

EQUIPMENT & CAPABILITY

All prints are produced in-house on consumer FFF printers using quality PLA and specialty filaments. Every item is personally printed, inspected, and finished before it leaves the cave. No outsourcing. No drop-shipping. Just layers.

SDF EDITOR

Signed-distance modelling in the browser · Export a printable STL

WHAT IT IS

A shape in here isn't a mesh — it's a signed distance field, math that answers "how far am I from the surface?" at any point in space. Both editors solve that field live and mesh it into the print you see on screen.

METAMELD

The general-purpose one. Stack up primitives, cut and keep them against each other, and the GPU raymarches the result as you drag. Shapes group into bodies, so a cut can reach one part and leave its neighbour whole. Touch-first — it works on a phone as well as it does on a desktop.

NURBS FISH

The purpose-built one. Draw side and Draw top let you pull the profile curves around by their control points, and the print's head, dorsal, tail, and caudal regions follow what you draw.

Runs entirely on your machine — nothing is uploaded. These are full-screen apps by design, so open one in its own tab if you're really modelling; on a phone, Share → Add to Home Screen makes it launch like an app.
